Edwards School of Business

History
Business education has a long tradition at the University of Saskatchewan, starting with the establishment of the School of Accounting in 1914. The first students began classes in 1917, and the School became a College of Accounting in 1936 and then the College of Commerce in 1943 and the Edwards School of Business in 2007. With a healthy long-standing relationship with the Institute of Chartered Accountants beginning with the early development of accounting education at the University of Saskatchewan, the School also celebrates its fine programs that cross the business education gamut.
The University of Saskatchewan proudly announced on July 24, 2007 the transformation of the College of Commerce to the N. Murray Edwards School of Business. The new name reflects an ongoing partnership with Saskatchewan-born businessman Murray Edwards, as well as an expansion in the School’s programming focus from wealth management to include entrepreneurship and wealth creation.
On March 10, 2008, Ted Hanlon, renowned businessperson and U of S alumnus, announced a $2 million gift towards the study of international business within the School. Hanlon's gift aims to increase the number of international students in the college, grow the number of students who participate in international exchange, and expand international research and community outreach taking place in the Edwards School of Business. In recognition of his generosity, the centre will be called the Hanlon Centre for International Business.
The Edwards School of Business has strong ties to the business community, both locally and nationally thanks to its various partnerships and extensive network of alumni, past and current staff and faculty, and current students.
