After a decade of consulting on social housing and travel, I returned to university to study, first with Prof, Eric Trist at Environmental Studies, then with Prof. Gareth Morgan in Administrative Studies at York University in Toronto. During my graduate studies I also ran a small sheep farm which did not, for better or worse, help with the study of organizational behaviour.

My research interests have always been in the area of labour-management relations. A year of direct observation in two auto assembly plants gave me an appreciation the enormous task facing management of implementing major technological and organizational change. At the same time, my observations inclined me to favour critical perspectives on the subject, whether from labour relations or organizational theory.
