Research
Professor Long's research interests center around two main areas, both aimed at finding ways of simultaneously increasing organizational effectiveness and the quality of employee working life. His first research area focuses on the role that compensation systems can play in improving both organizational performance and the rewards enjoyed by employees, with a special emphasis on profit sharing and employee stock plans. His second research area focuses on the role that new information technology can play in enhancing both organizational performance and the scope for employee involvement in the enterprise. He has conducted major empirical studies in both of these research areas.
